Creating an audiobook

I'm currently working with narrator Tegan Johnson on the creation of the unabridged audiobook version of my new novel The Goldbach Conjecture. Tegan is a great reader & producer & it's exciting to hear my words come to life in someone else's voice. Preparing an audiobook is challenging for both author & narrator. My book contains many characters with many different accents & vocal characteristics. For this book, I want the voices of the various characters to be distinct but I don't want the narrator to overdo it. Some narrators make the mistake of trying to make the voices & narration so different that it actually distracts the listener from gleaning the full purport of the story. I also have to watch to make sure that words aren't skipped or mispronounced. Tegan has to make sure that extraneous noises--like audible breaths--are edited out. Fortunately, Tegan is an exceptionally exacting narrator & producer & it's a pleasure working with her.
