I would not have a career if not for revision. The great thing about writing is that you can go back and change things. You make changes in order to say exactly what you want to say. Often, your first attempt to say what you want to say comes out muddy and garbled. The beauty of revision is that you can fine tune your original attempt. The only down side of revision is that you can get stuck revising your material forever. At some point you have to say "I'm done revising." At that point, you have to let the work go.
